Tony Soter has been making wine in his native state for long enough now that this iconic figure of California wine history can be said to have achieved a similar status in Oregon

round textured wine is already starting to drink well

but also caters to those making their first foray into the region’s wines

leather and tobacco notes cling to the taut

followed by hints of menthol

Drouhin Laroze, Chambolle Musigny Vintage:2016 Tony Soter has been making(a mix of 80% Les Baudes and 20% from the villages portion of Les Vroilles). This too is noticeably reduced and tough to read. There is however a lovely sense of underlying tension to the rich, punchy and powerful medium bodied flavors that are overtly muscular though not rustic on the impressively complex and lingering finish that is presently quite compact. This isnt especially elegant but it certainly doesnt lack for character or stuffing. (90 93)
