The data plate on the compass was unfortunately damaged and is now illegible due to corrosion

This is the standard Union Officer's Dress or Parade Sword Model 1860, as issued during the Civil War. The sword has its original scabbard which retains its hanging rings and ornate end piece. The sword measures 33" overall, and the hilt and "shell" Guard are of bronze brass alloy and the grip is wood which was once wire bound. Overall the guard and grip are tight on the tang. The guard has a lovely federal eagle
