This is a fantastic piece of Second World War trench art. This started out as a U. S. 4 1943 dated 40MM MK1 round for the British Bofors 40 mm gun, known to the U. S. Marine Corps as the 40 mm Automatic Gun M1. It was then polished up, fitted with a dummy warhead, and decorated with a Marine Corps EGA Cap badge, as well as the date 1944 in large copper letters. The back of the shell has four copper stars attached to it.
