Here is a very nice Civil War era specimen of the Model 1858 "Smooth Side" or "Flat Back" pattern tin canteen offered in good condition. Originally canteens had "ribbed" sides in a bullseye pattern, but to expedite production, this feature was removed. The model 1858 canteen was the most popular canteen of the Civil War period. Canteen measures approximately 7 3 4 in diameter. It is covered in brown wool with flecks
