The engraving on the top of the barrel is still fully legible:-

This was later simplified to Koppeltragegestell für Infanterie

X Force was reinforced – eventually becoming the New 1st Army – a corps-level formation

indicating 1943 manufacture by Gimson & Slater of Nottingham

The rifle was made using a British percussion "trade" lock marked clearly on the side:

This is a very nice, rare condition example of a complete Model 1858 Smooth Side Canteen from the American Civil War, unit marked on one side to the 85th Ohio Infantry. Prior to 1858 canteens were made of wood or tin and came in a variety of forms and sizes. The two most prominent being the "barrel type" made of wood with side slats like a barrel, and the "cheesebox type" made of wood with a single wrap around side.
