William Chance worked from 1830 to 1860 and was renowned for his fine "wire twist barrels". He exported many quality arms to the United States, of which this is an excellent example. Both locks have lovely decorative engraving and are marked W. Chance & Son in European Style Black Letter style. The top strap between the barrels is marked London Real Twist in the same style, indicating the forging style. There is also
